WELCOME TO RSLS: RADIO SLOSS
RSLS: Radio Sloss is a temporary, very-low-powered FM radio station broadcasting from the Sloss Furnaces National Historic Landmark Visitor Center as a part of the 2023 National Conference on Contemporary Cast Iron Art and Practices (NCCCIAP) April 5-8 in Birmingham, AL. The primary purpose of this station is to broadcast interviews from the Sloss Oral History Project, episodes of the podCast Iron produced and hosted by Laura Mullen Vermilye (the Cast Iron Gypsy), interviews with attendees and organizers, as well as various musics related to iron, labor, and adjacent topics.
From the hard drives of the archive to the live air of the Sloss campus, RSLS: Radio Sloss will transport us across time, reanimating the important voices of the past to mix with voices of the present, helping us to better understand and honor the important legacies left by those who labored at the Sloss furnaces while celebrating contemporary practices in the casting arts.
